Mothman Sightings (1966-1967)
The Story
Witness Narrative
Beginning in November 1966, residents of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, reported numerous sightings of a large winged humanoid creature with glowing red eyes. Witnesses described the figure as standing between six and seven feet tall with broad wings and an unusual ability to fly at high speeds while silently following vehicles. Reports continued for approximately thirteen months and were accompanied by local accounts of strange lights, unexplained animal behavior, and other unusual occurrences. Following the collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967, many people retrospectively associated the sightings with the tragedy, although no evidence has established a causal connection. The Mothman sightings remain one of the world's most famous cryptid cases and continue to be a significant part of Appalachian folklore and paranormal history.
