Patterson–Gimlin Bigfoot Film (1967)
The Story
Witness Narrative
On October 20, 1967, Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin were riding horseback along Bluff Creek in Northern California when they reported observing a large, hair-covered bipedal creature walking across a sandbar. Patterson filmed approximately one minute of 16 mm color footage before the creature disappeared into the surrounding forest. The film quickly became one of the most widely analyzed and debated pieces of alleged cryptid evidence ever recorded. Supporters argue that the footage depicts an unknown primate, while skeptics have suggested it was an individual wearing a costume. More than five decades later, the Patterson–Gimlin film remains one of the best-known and most influential cases in Bigfoot research.
