Rendlesham Forest Incident (1980)
The Story
Witness Narrative
Between December 26 and 28, 1980, United States Air Force personnel stationed at RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk, England, reported a series of unusual lights and events in nearby Rendlesham Forest. Security personnel investigating lights beyond the base perimeter described seeing a glowing object among the trees, while others later reported unusual lights in the sky and elevated radiation readings at the site. Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt documented a subsequent investigation in what became known as the "Halt Memorandum," one of the most widely cited official documents associated with the incident. Various explanations have been proposed over the years, including a nearby lighthouse, bright stars, and other natural or man-made sources, while the event remains one of the most discussed historical UFO cases in the United Kingdom.
