Beginning on January 20, 1996, residents of Varginha, Minas Gerais, Brazil, reported a series of unusual events that quickly became one of the country's most famous UFO cases. Several witnesses, including three young women, described encountering a small humanoid creature with brown skin, large red eyes, and an unusual appearance in an empty lot. Additional reports described increased military activity throughout the city, including the alleged recovery of unidentified beings and objects. Brazilian military officials later stated that the creature reportedly seen by witnesses was likely a local man with physical disabilities and denied claims involving extraterrestrial beings or recovered spacecraft.
