Westall UFO Incident (April 6, 1966)
The Story
Witness Narrative
On April 6, 1966, students and staff at Westall High School in Clayton South, Victoria, Australia reported seeing an unusual flying object near the school grounds. Witnesses described a round, dome-topped object that appeared white, grey, or silver, with some accounts saying it descended behind trees near The Grange, an open area south of the school. The incident became one of Australia's best-known mass UFO sightings and has since been the subject of documentaries, reunions, and continuing public interest. Contemporary and later explanations have included weather balloons, aircraft, and possible high-altitude balloon activity, but the event remains a major historical case in Australian UFO culture.
